Earlier this year, the nation’s first urban cycling path was introduced in the capital, Podgorica, offering an entirely new way for bicycle use. While recreational practices, like mountain biking, have become relatively popular in recent years, inner-city cycling has always been viewed as a rather dangerous mode of transport.
During last week’s meeting with the Dutch Cycling Embassy, different local actors shared their experience and position on the current cycling situation in Montenegro. Even though public events like critical masses and open forums have made a noticeable difference, there remains a lot of work to be done before bicycles become a normal sight on the streets.
