Ethiopian Delegation visits NL
On Monday, September 18th a high level delegation from the Addis Ababa Road and Transport Bureau (AARTB) visited the office of Connekt.
During the visit, Mr. Edward Douma of the Dutch Cycling Embassy, Ms. Marije de Vreeze of Connekt and Mr. Johan Diepens of Mobycon shared their views on transport in The Netherlands. The study tour is part of the city’s Knowledge Exchange and Sharing program which organizes visits to different countries to learn from their experiences and gain a practical understanding of the projects’ benefits and challenges. The study tour was organized and financed by the Ethiopia Transport System Improvement Project (TRANSIP), a World Bank financed project that aims to improve accessibility and safety performance in Addis Ababa (through system modernization, traffic control and management, improving road & pedestrian facilities and public transport) effectiveness and efficiency of vehicle and drivers’ license system throughout Ethiopia.
The study tour already met with Mr. Erik Tetteroo of the Ministry of Infrastructure & Environment to discuss traffic from the government perspective and Mr. Govert Schemers and Mr. Rob Methorst of SWOV to discuss Dutch research on traffic/road safety.
During the meetings, the Dutch experts elaborated on different modes of transport, such as cars, walking and cycling. After the presentations, some time was reserved for questions and discussion. It was fruitful to learn from each other and discuss the future of Ethiopian transport together.
